We offer very competitive prices, with 'Minute plus second' calling, so you only pay for what you use.
*All rates are 'Minute Plus Second'
*There are no peak or off-peak rates - they are the same.
*We don't have a 'rate card' or set plans, we tailor prices to suit the customers' actual usage.

Communitel's rates are designed to provide our customers savings they would not get if they bought their toll calls from any of the bigger players. We use a billing method called "Minute plus Second". The "Minute" part is the same with virtually every Toll services provider, it means that as soon as your call connects, you will be charged for a minimum of one minute, even if you hang up in a few seconds.

The "Second" part means after one minute of call duration, the customer is charged only for the actual number of seconds used. Some toll services providers charge on a "Minute plus Second" basis but many use "Minute plus Minute".

"Minute plus Minute" means that as soon as the 61st second ticks over, the customer gets billed for another full minute. The toll service providers who do this often show slightly better per minute rates on their rate cards, but when you consider that once your first minute is up, there is only 1 chance in 60 that you will pay for what you have actually used…. Well now that's a slightly different picture.

So we do "Minute plus Second" billing. If we could bill purely by the second, we would. Unfortunately we can't... yet...

Another thing to consider is those calls that go through to voicemail, to a wrong number or reach a fax or modem instead of the person you wanted to talk to. Most toll service providers will charge for those calls. As long as you cut the call as soon as you realise (which needs to be within 3 seconds) Communitel won't charge you for the call. 3 Seconds is usually long enough.

Add to all of this the fact that our prices reduce by 10% if you elect the prompt payment rebate and pay your bill on time, or alternatively, that you can save on toll calls AND support your local community, whilst receiving better, more personal service.

Telecommunications costs in NZ are amongst some of the highest in the developed world. The Kiwi taxpayer has paid for a complex telecommunications network to be built but the government sold it all to foreign interests. The competition that has crept slowly in since deregulation is predominantly overseas owned. They don't care whether Kiwi's pay too much, they have shareholders who expect dividends, so they need to keep prices high to ensure the profits they need.

Communitel is 100% Kiwi owned and operated. Our profits get distributed in NZ and stay within our economy longer. Not only do we do our best to support the good things in our community with direct financial support, we ensure that the Kiwi dollar stays put in NZ as long as it can.
