Telecom’s Anytime Plus rates appear to be amongst the lowest available on the market today… Let’s examine that shall we…..

The customer has to pay $10 per month additional cost for the landline in order to qualify for the Anytime plus rates. Also the rate is Minute plus Minute.

Let’s take the Anytime Plus national calling rate of 14c per minute for example.

Communitel’s national rate is 17c per minute on a Minute plus Second charging rate. Take off the 10% prompt payment rebate and that makes our Nett rate 15.3c per minute.

To do better out of the Anytime plus rates the average household would have to make more than 200 average length (3.5 min) national calls per month, just to recover the $10 and start to make use of the “lower” rates.

That means over 760 minutes (over 12 hours!) of national calling per month to better Communitel’s rate! Check your bill and see how long you spend on the phone to other cities in NZ each month. But don’t forget to take into account the rounding up effect of Minute plus Minute charging.

Most families don’t get past 200 minutes in an average month.

And you may as well try to take into account the number of times you hang up within 3 seconds of connecting (Wrong number, Voicemail etc) and still get charged for a full minute.
We don’t charge you $10 per month to get our “best” rates so that makes our rate…. Exactly what it says it is, or even less if you pay promptly.
We don’t hide or disguise any aspect of how we charge for our calls.
Our rate per minute applies to any part of the first minute and then you pay by the second.
It’s very simple and we do expect the average Kiwi to understand it.
